2. Age requirement: 18 years or older
You must be 18 or older at enrolment. Disability support work involves personal care, duty of care and reporting obligations that host providers expect of adults, so placement providers apply the same expectation to students.
3. Police check and Working with Children Check
CHC43121 includes work placement with vulnerable people, so you need a current police check and a Working with Children Check before placement. In Victoria, the Working with Children Check is issued by the Victorian Government.
Disability sector employers also commonly require an NDIS Worker Screening Check for people who work with NDIS participants. Screening requirements can change, so confirm the current requirements with the relevant authority and your placement provider before you begin.
4. English language requirement: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
ALIT’s published English entry requirement for CHC43121 is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Equivalent tests such as PTE Academic are generally accepted, and prior study completed in English can often stand in for a formal test.
