What Units Are Included in CHC43121?

The packaging rules

The national packaging rules for CHC43121 require ten units: seven core units every provider must deliver, and three electives. At least two electives must come from the qualification’s elective list, and one may come from any current endorsed training package or accredited course where it supports a valid vocational outcome. Compared with the fifteen-core ageing qualification, CHC43121 is deliberately lean — seven cores, each aimed at the specialised end of disability support work.

The seven core units

• CHCCCS044 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports — working within established behaviour support plans, including around regulated and restricted practices, exactly as written and within the law.
• CHCDIS017 Facilitate community participation and social inclusion — opening doors to community life: access, inclusion and genuine participation.
• CHCDIS018 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach — building capability with the person, at their pace, toward their goals.
• CHCDIS019 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs — the signature senior skill: safe, person-centred support where multiple needs interact.
• CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance — managing compliance within your scope: duty of care, dignity of risk, mandatory reporting and the legislative frame disability services work within.
• CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues — recognising and responding supportively where mental health and disability intersect.
• HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety — safety at the senior level: monitoring, contributing and improving practice, not just following procedures.

There is a visible logic to the seven: five are about the person — behaviour supports, participation, skills development, complex needs and mental health — and two are about the frame you work within — legal and ethical compliance, and work health and safety. Entry: the units build on a Cert III

CHC43121 carries a national entry requirement, which is unusual for a community services qualification: the register asks for CHC33021 or CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), or CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability plus the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support skill set. ALIT applies the same prerequisite, along with its standard requirements — 18 or older, Year 11 or equivalent, English proficiency, and current police and Working with Children checks. Placement, duration and delivery

Unlike the ageing qualification’s 120-hour placement requirement, the national packaging for CHC43121 specifies no mandatory work placement — training and assessment can be delivered in a simulated environment that reflects real workplace conditions.
