WHILE YOU STUDY

Access and Equity

Everyone at ALIT — students, staff, contractors and visitors — has the right
to learn and work free from discrimination, harassment, bullying and victimisation. This is not an
aspiration. It is a standard we enforce.

Version 2.0 · Effective 1 July 2026 · Review 1 July 2027

Where this applies: our campus, any site where training or assessment
happens including workplaces and placements, online learning environments, and any communication connected
with your study at ALIT.

Our commitment to you

  • Access to our training is open to anyone who meets the entry requirements, regardless of background.
  • You will be treated with respect and dignity by our staff, and expected to extend the same to others.
  • If you have a disability or another need, reasonable adjustment is available so you can participate
fully — without lowering the competency standard your qualification represents.
  • If you raise a concern in good faith, you will not suffer for it. Victimising someone for complaining is
    itself a serious disciplinary matter.

What is not acceptable

ConductWhat it means
DiscriminationTreating someone less favourably, or imposing conditions that disadvantage them, because of a protected attribute — including sex, race, age, disability, pregnancy, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or nationality.
HarassmentUnwelcome conduct related to a protected attribute that offends, humiliates or intimidates.
BullyingRepeated unreasonable behaviour directed at a person or group that creates a risk to health or safety.
VictimisationCausing someone detriment because they made, or intend to make, a complaint.

These apply equally between students, from staff to students, and from students to staff. Substantiated
breaches lead to proportionate disciplinary action, up to and including cancellation of enrolment or
termination of employment.

If it happens to you, or you see it happen

  1. Report it — to your trainer, Student Services, or the Compliance Manager at
compliance@alit.edu.au. If your concern involves any of those
people, report it directly to the Chief Executive Officer, or to an external body.
  2. It is handled under our complaints process — with procedural fairness, confidentiality, and
your right to a support person at every stage. See
    Complaints and appeals.
  3. You are told the outcome — in writing, with reasons.

External avenues

Common questions

What do I do if I experience discrimination or bullying at ALIT?

Report it to your trainer, Student Services, or the Compliance Manager at compliance@alit.edu.au. If your concern involves any of those people, report it directly to the Chief Executive Officer or to an external body. It is handled under ALIT’s complaints process, with procedural fairness, confidentiality and your right to a support person at every stage, and you are told the outcome in writing with reasons.

Will complaining about discrimination affect my enrolment at ALIT?

No. Causing someone detriment because they made, or intend to make, a complaint is victimisation, and is itself a serious disciplinary matter at ALIT. Raising a concern in good faith will not count against you.

Where do ALIT’s access and equity obligations extend to?

ALIT’s campus, any site where training or assessment happens including workplaces and placements, online learning environments, and any communication connected with your study at ALIT.

Who can I contact outside ALIT about discrimination?

You are never limited to ALIT’s internal process. You may contact the Australian Human Rights Commission at humanrights.gov.au or on 1300 656 419, or the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
