IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

Feedback and Suggestions

You should not have to make a complaint to tell us something. If something could be
better, or someone did something well, we want to hear it.

Or tell any staff member. Feedback goes to
info@alit.edu.au and is logged. You do not have to give your contact
details — though we then cannot come back to you about it. Note that contacting us by email or phone
will still show your email address or phone number.

Feedback or complaint?

Both are welcome, and you do not need to work out which is which before contacting us — we will route
it properly. But roughly:

Use feedback whenUse the complaints process when
You have a suggestion for improvement
Something worked well and you want to say so
A resource, facility or process could be better
You want to comment on your course or trainer
You have an idea we have not thought of
You are dissatisfied and want a decision or an outcome
You want to appeal an assessment or other decision
Something has affected you and you want it investigated
You want a formal response within set timeframes

Who can give feedback

Anyone connected with ALIT: current and former students, applicants, parents and supporters, employers and
placement hosts, education agents, industry partners, and our own staff.

What we do with it

  1. We record it — feedback is logged so it can be looked at alongside everything else we
receive, not just read once and forgotten.
  2. We look for patterns — one comment is a data point; the same comment from several people is
a signal. Feedback is analysed as part of our continuous improvement and self-assurance process.
  3. We act, and record the action — improvements are entered in the Continuous Improvement
Register with what changed and what effect it had.
  4. We come back to you — if you provide contact details and request a response, ALIT will
    respond within a reasonable timeframe.

We also ask

ALIT may invite students to complete learner surveys during and after their course, including surveys
administered nationally across the VET sector. Those responses inform what ALIT changes. Orientation content,
for example, is reviewed at least annually and updated from what students tell us.

Negative feedback will not be held against you. Nobody’s assessment, support or standing at ALIT
is affected by telling us something we would rather not hear. If you believe it has been, that is itself a
complaint and we want to know.

Common questions

How do I give ALIT feedback without making a complaint?

Email info@alit.edu.au, call (03) 9917 5018, or tell any ALIT staff member. Feedback is logged and reviewed. You do not have to give your contact details, though ALIT then cannot come back to you, and contacting ALIT by email or phone will still show your email address or phone number. Feedback is for suggestions and compliments; the complaints process is for matters needing a decision or investigation.

Will giving ALIT negative feedback affect my course?

No. No student’s assessment, support or standing at ALIT is affected by giving feedback ALIT would rather not hear. If you believe it has been, that is itself a complaint and ALIT wants to know.
