IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

Privacy Policy

ALIT Education Group Pty Ltd (RTO 45156, CRICOS 03981M) handles your personal
information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. This page explains
what we collect, why, who we give it to, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

  • Identity and contact details — name, date of birth, address, email, phone number, and the
    identity documents used to verify who you are.
  • Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) and previous qualifications or statements of attainment.
  • Enrolment and study records — course, enrolment status, attendance where it applies to your
    course, assessment results, support plans, reasonable adjustments and completion records.
  • Language, literacy and numeracy assessment results and any support arrangements made for you.
  • Fee and payment records. Card payments are processed by Stripe; ALIT does not store your full
    card number.
  • Visa and immigration information for international students, as required by the ESOS framework.
  • Website and enquiry information — enquiry form submissions, and the name, email address,
    phone number and conversation record collected by our website chat service.
  • Complaints, appeals and conduct records where these arise.

Why we collect it

To assess your application, enrol you, deliver and assess your training, support you during your studies,
issue your certification, manage fees, meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and respond to your
enquiries. If you do not give us the information we need, we may not be able to enrol you or issue your
qualification.

Where your information is held

Your student records — enrolment, assessment and certification data — are held in
Australia.
Some supporting services we use, including payment processing, website analytics and email,
may process information outside Australia. Before using any such provider we take reasonable steps to ensure
your information is protected to a standard comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles. If you would
like the detail for a particular service, its policy is linked in the table above, and you are welcome to ask
us.

We do not sell your personal information.

How we protect it

Records are stored securely with access granted on a need-to-know basis. We maintain information-security
controls and a documented data breach response procedure, which is tested periodically. If a data breach
occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we notify you and the Office of the Australian Information
Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

When a retention period ends we destroy records securely and keep a record of the destruction.

Accessing or correcting your information

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong.
Email compliance@alit.edu.au with your request. We respond within
30 days. There is no charge to make a request. If we refuse access we tell you why in writing and how to have
that reviewed.

Privacy complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, contact our Privacy Officer first. If you are
not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information
Commissioner
at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992. You may also use
our Complaints and Appeals process.

Common questions

What personal information does ALIT collect?

ALIT collects identity and contact details, your Unique Student Identifier, enrolment and study records, language literacy and numeracy results, fee and payment records, visa information for international students, website and enquiry information including chat records, and complaints or conduct records.

Where does ALIT store student data?

Student records — enrolment, assessment and certification data — are held in Australia. Some supporting services including payment processing, website analytics and email may process information overseas, with reasonable steps taken to ensure protection comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles.

How long does ALIT keep student records?

Records of results and the qualification or statement of attainment issued are kept for 30 years. Enrolment, assessment and support records are kept as required by the Standards for RTOs, and for international students at least two years after finishing. Enquiry, chat and marketing records are kept for 12 months after last contact.

How do I access or correct my information held by ALIT?

Email compliance@alit.edu.au. ALIT responds within 30 days and there is no charge. If access is refused you are told why in writing and how to have that reviewed. You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner on 1300 363 992.
