BEFORE YOU ENROL

Enrolment and Withdrawal

Enrolling with ALIT should be clear and unhurried. You will know what the course costs,
what it involves and what you are agreeing to before you pay anything.

Version 2.0 · Effective 1 July 2026 · Review 1 July 2027

The rule we work to: you sign a written Student Agreement before any
tuition fee is collected. Not after. If anyone asks you to pay before you have that agreement, tell us.

Minimum age depends on your course. You must be 18 or over at your start date for
any CRICOS course, and for any course leading to a licence that requires it — including CPP20218
Certificate II in Security Operations. Other courses state their minimum age on the course page. See
Younger students.

Before you enrol

  1. Check the entry requirements — each course page lists what is required for that
qualification. Some courses also have requirements set by an external licensing authority, not by ALIT.
  2. Read the pre-enrolment information — course content, duration, delivery mode, fees, what is
included, and what a qualification does and does not entitle you to. Ask us anything that is unclear.
  3. Complete your language, literacy and numeracy check — an assessment aligned to the
Australian Core Skills Framework, completed before or at enrolment. Its purpose is to identify support you
may need and confirm the course suits you. See
    Student support.
  4. Tell us about prior study or experience — you may be eligible for credit transfer or RPL,
which can reduce what you need to complete. See
    RPL and credit transfer.

Your Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Every student undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia must have a USI. It is free, it is
yours for life, and it holds a record of all your nationally recognised training.

  • Create one at usi.gov.au — it takes a few minutes.
  • If you are currently outside Australia, you will not be able to create a USI until you have
arrived and passed through immigration. Tell us and we will help you at that point.
  • Exemptions apply in a small number of cases — ask us if you think one may apply to you.
  • We cannot issue your qualification or statement of attainment without a verified USI.

Your Student Agreement

Before any fee is collected, you receive a written agreement setting out:

  • The course, its duration and how it will be delivered
  • The total fees, what they include, and the payment terms
  • Any attendance requirement that applies to your course
  • Your refund rights — see
    Fees, refunds and cancellations
  • Your right to complain and appeal — see
    Complaints and appeals
  • Your obligations, and ours

Read it before you sign, and keep your copy. For international students the agreement also meets the ESOS
framework requirements, and is issued before your Confirmation of Enrolment.

Attendance

Requirements differ by course. Where a licensing authority or the training product sets mandatory hours
— for example licensed security training and first aid — you must complete all mandatory hours
and practical activities
. Missing a session means arranging a catch-up before you can be assessed. For all
other courses we monitor your course progress rather than attendance, and you are expected to follow your
training plan. Your course page and your Student Agreement state which applies to you.

Withdrawing from your course

  1. Talk to us first, if you can — sometimes the reason for withdrawing can be solved with
support, a deferral, or an adjusted timeline. There is no pressure, but the conversation is worth having.
  2. Notify us in writing — email admission@alit.edu.au.
Your withdrawal takes effect on the day we receive your written notice.
  3. We confirm it in writing within 5 working days and tell you what it means for your fees, any
    refund, and your record.
  4. Any refund is calculated and explained under the fees and refunds policy applying to you.
  5. You receive a Statement of Attainment for any units you have already completed. Work you have
    finished is not lost.

International students: withdrawal affects your visa. Do not withdraw before speaking to us and to
the Department of Home Affairs about your circumstances. Different rules also apply in your first six months
— see
Transferring to another provider
and
Deferral, suspension
and cancellation
.

Changing your enrolment

Deferrals, course changes and study-load changes are processed under the relevant policy and reflected in
your records — and, for international students, in PRISMS. Ask Student Services what applies to you
before you commit to a change.
