BEFORE YOU ENROL

Fees, Refunds and Cancellations

This page explains what you pay, when you pay it, and what happens to your money if you
withdraw or if we cannot deliver your course. Different rules apply to domestic and international students,
so both are set out separately.

Version 1.0 / 2.0 · Last Review 1 Sep 2026 · Review 1 July 2027

Before you pay anything: you receive a written Student Agreement setting
out your course, the total fees, the payment terms and your refund rights. Read it. You sign it before any
tuition fee is collected — that is a requirement, not a courtesy.

What you pay

Current fees for each course are shown on that course’s page. Your Student Agreement states the exact
total for your enrolment, including any material or enrolment fee, before you commit.

Fees paid to other organisations are not part of your course fee. Where a course leads to a
licence — for example a Victorian security licence — the licence application and fingerprinting
fees are paid directly to the licensing authority, not to ALIT. Those amounts are set by that authority and
are not included in, or refundable by, ALIT.

Refunds — domestic students

These rules apply if you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or are otherwise not enrolled
under CRICOS.

SituationWhat you receive
You withdraw 5 or more business days before your course startsFull refund of the course fee.
You withdraw within 5 business days of your course starting50% of the course fee refunded. Places on scheduled courses are limited, and a late withdrawal usually cannot be filled.
You withdraw after your course has startedNo refund of the course fee. If compassionate or compelling circumstances apply — circumstances beyond your control, such as serious illness or bereavement — you can apply and we will assess your case individually.
Enrolment feeNot refundable once your enrolment has been processed.
ALIT cancels the course, or does not start or finish delivering itFull refund of fees paid for the part of the course not delivered, or a place in an alternative course at no extra cost if you accept one. Your choice.
ALIT cancels your enrolment for misconduct or non-paymentNo refund. Any amount you already owe remains payable.

Refunds — international students (CRICOS)

If you hold a student visa, your fees are protected under the ESOS Act and the Tuition Protection Service.
Your written agreement sets out the refund amounts and the process before any fee is accepted, and it does
not remove your right to pursue other legal remedies.

If ALIT defaults

A provider default means ALIT fails to start your course on the agreed day, or stops delivering it. If
that happens we must — within the period the ESOS Act requires — either place you in a suitable
alternative course at no extra cost, or refund your unspent pre-paid fees. If we cannot do either, the
Tuition Protection Service assists you. ALIT maintains current TPS registration.

If you default

A student default means you do not start, you withdraw, your enrolment is cancelled, or fees are not paid.
Refunds are then calculated using the published method in P5.6, with worked examples defining pro-rata
amounts, what “commenced” means, and any administration fee. Your calculation is shown to you in writing.

ALIT manages pre-paid fees in line with the ESOS protected-amount requirements — we do not take more
of your money upfront than the framework allows.

How to request a refund

  1. Complete the Refund Request form — download it below, or ask Student Services for a copy.
  2. Send it to us with any supporting evidence, to
    accounts@alit.edu.au.
  3. We calculate and explain — you receive the calculation in writing, showing how the amount
was worked out under the policy that applies to you.
  4. We pay — approved refunds are paid within 20 business days of the written decision,
to the person who paid the fees.
  5. If you disagree — you may appeal the decision under our
Complaints and Appeals process, at no cost.

Common questions

Can I get a refund if I withdraw from an ALIT course?

Domestic students who withdraw 5 or more business days before the course starts receive a full refund of the course fee. Withdrawing within 5 business days of the start date returns 50% of the course fee. There is no refund after the course has commenced, except where compassionate or compelling circumstances are demonstrated. The enrolment fee is not refundable once processed.

What happens if ALIT cancels my course?

You receive a full refund of fees paid for the part of the course not delivered, or a place in an alternative course at no additional cost. The choice is yours.

How long does an ALIT refund take?

Approved refunds are paid within 20 business days of the written decision, to the person who paid the fees.

Are licence fees included in my ALIT course fee?

No. Where a course leads to a licence, the licence application and fingerprinting fees are paid directly to the licensing authority, not to ALIT. Those amounts are set by that authority and are not included in or refundable by ALIT.
