RPL and Credit Transfer

Three ways your existing skills can count

Pathway	What it means	What you provide
Credit transfer	You have already completed the same unit with another Australian RTO. We recognise it — you do not repeat it and you are not re-assessed.	Your qualification or statement of attainment. We verify it, usually against your USI transcript or directly with the issuing RTO.
Mutual recognition	Your AQF qualification or statement of attainment from any registered Australian provider is recognised here, whichever state or territory issued it. This is your right, not a favour.	The certification document, for verification of authenticity only.
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)	You have the skills and knowledge from work, life or other training, but no matching unit result. We assess what you can actually do against the unit requirements.	A portfolio of evidence — see below.

Evidence for credit transfer

We need to be satisfied your document is authentic and the unit codes match. In most cases the simplest
route is your USI transcript, because it can be verified instantly. If a USI transcript is not available or
does not show the unit — for example an older qualification, or one issued before USI records — we
verify the certification document with the issuing RTO instead. A USI transcript is not the only document
we accept. Bring what you have and we will work out how to verify it.

Evidence for RPL

Your assessor tells you exactly what is needed for your qualification, using the approved RPL kit. It
usually includes some combination of:

• A self-assessment checklist, where you rate yourself against each unit requirement
• Workplace documents you have produced — rosters, reports, logs, plans, photographs of your work
• A third-party report from a supervisor or employer confirming what you do
• A competency conversation with your assessor about how you handle real situations
• A practical task or challenge test, where a demonstration is the clearest evidence
• Résumé, position descriptions, references, licences and previous training records

How the process works

1. Talk to us — tell Student Services what you have done. We will tell you honestly whether RPL
   or credit transfer is likely to be worth your time.
2. Apply — complete the RPL Application Kit or Credit Transfer form and submit your evidence to
   admission@alit.edu.au.
3. Assessment — a qualified assessor maps your evidence against every requirement of each unit,
   applying the same standards as any other assessment. They may ask you questions or request more evidence.
4. Outcome in writing — within 10 working days of a complete application. You are told which
   units are granted, which are not, and why.
5. Gap training — where evidence covers part of a unit, we tell you exactly what remains and how
   to complete it. You do not repeat what you have already demonstrated.

RPL assessment	An assessment fee applies — see Fees, refunds and cancellations and the fee schedule for your course. Ask us before you apply and we will confirm the exact amount.

International students — effect on your course duration

If you hold a student visa, RPL or credit transfer may shorten your course. Where it does, we update your
Confirmation of Enrolment and report the change through PRISMS as required. A shorter course can affect your
visa, so we explain the implications and you should contact the Department of Home Affairs about your
individual circumstances.
