CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations covers the skills used in entry-level guarding and crowd control, including communication, risk assessment, patrols, access control and First Aid. ALIT College delivers the course in Alice Springs over an 18-day blended program with one live online class, online self-study and three face-to-face practical days.
What you learn
You learn to assess situations, communicate clearly and follow lawful security procedures. Practical training provides opportunities to apply these skills before assessment.
For example, when someone refuses to leave a venue, you need to understand your authority, recognise risk and use appropriate communication and procedures.
The 14 core units
CPP20218 contains 14 core units in total. First Aid is included within those 14 units; it is not an additional fifteenth unit.

How the 18 days are organised
- One live online class with a trainer.
- Online self-study to work through the course learning materials.
- Three face-to-face practical days in Alice Springs, including the First Aid component.
The 18 days describe the scheduled program period, not 18 days of campus attendance. Students must complete the required learning and assessments and demonstrate competency. Finishing the scheduled period alone does not guarantee a qualification.
Where the practical training takes place
The advertised venue is the Chamber of Commerce, Shop 5/36 Alice Plaza, Todd Mall, Alice Springs NT 0870. ALIT provides venue details and will notify students in advance if the venue changes. Monthly intakes are available; contact ALIT for the next start date and class timetable.
Course fees and payment
The total fee is $1,600: $1,400 tuition plus $200 enrolment and materials. The fee includes the First Aid component. NT students can pay in two instalments: $800 before commencement and $800 after training begins. ALIT provides the payment due dates in the enrolment documents.
Security licence application fees and required government checks are separate from the course fee.
What completion allows you to do next
Successful completion gives you the CPP20218 qualification and evidence of the units achieved. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a unit of competency, not a second full qualification. Training supports a security licence application; Licensing NT makes the licensing decision. You need the appropriate authorisation before carrying out licensed security work.
Frequently asked questions
Can I complete the course entirely online?
No. The program includes three face-to-face practical days in Alice Springs, as well as one live online class and online self-study.
Does completing the course guarantee a licence?
No. Course completion and licence approval are separate. Licensing NT assesses your licence application.
