HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is one of the most widely held first aid qualifications in Australia and is the qualification identified in the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice — First Aid in the Workplace. The course gives you the skills, knowledge and confidence to respond to a casualty in a workplace, community or home setting. You will learn how to perform CPR on adults, children and infants, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and manage anaphylaxis, asthma, bleeding, burns, fractures, choking, seizures and stroke. Training is aligned to current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

There are no formal prerequisites for HLTAID011. To be assessed as competent you must:
HLTAID011 is the first aid course required for designated first aid officers in most workplaces, and is suitable for anyone wanting to be prepared at home or in the community. This course is suited to:
Assess and respond to an emergency in a workplace or community setting |

HLTAID011 is delivered as a blended program. You complete the theory and knowledge assessment online in your own time before attending a single 7-hour practical workshop at our West Melbourne campus. The practical day focuses on hands-on skills — CPR on adult, child and infant manikins, AED use, anaphylaxis auto-injector practice, asthma management, bandaging, and at least two scenario-based simulated first aid incidents.

To be assessed as competent in HLTAID011 you must successfully complete all of the following:
All assessment is conducted by a qualified trainer and assessor in line with the assessment conditions of HLTAID011 and current ARC guidelines.
On successful completion you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Certificates are typically issued within 5 business days.
While there is no legislated expiry, the Australian Resuscitation Council and most Australian workplaces recommend or require:

Does HLTAID011 meet workplace first aid requirements?
HLTAID011 is the qualification identified in the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice — First Aid in the Workplace as the qualification used by designated workplace first aiders in most industries. Workplace requirements vary by jurisdiction and industry, so please check your specific obligations.
What's the difference between HLTAID011 and HLTAID012?
HLTAID011 is the general first aid qualification suitable for workplaces, community settings and home. HLTAID012 is a similar qualification contextualised to education and care settings (childcare, schools, OSHC) and is on the ACECQA-approved first aid qualifications list under the Education and Care Services National Regulations.
Do I need to complete anything before the workshop?
Yes. You must complete the online pre-learning module and knowledge assessment before attending the face-to-face session. You will receive access details after enrolment.
How long is my certificate valid?
There is no legislated expiry. The ARC and SafeWork Australia recommend refreshing the CPR component every 12 months and the full unit every 3 years, and most Australian employers require this.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring valid photo ID, your USI, comfortable clothing suitable for floor-based CPR practice, a water bottle, and lunch (or be ready to buy lunch nearby).
What if I don't pass the assessment on the day?
Your trainer will identify gaps and you may attempt one complimentary reassessment. Any additional reassessments are charged at the rate set out in our Student Handbook.
Can I get Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
Yes. If you hold a current equivalent qualification or have relevant workplace experience, you may apply for RPL or credit transfer. Contact our enrolments team.
